Integral Nature Reserve of Barranco Oscuro

This short stretch of ravine which runs into the Barranco de la Virgen is home to some of the most sublime examples of the Gran Canaria laurel forest.

Special Nature Reserve of Azuaje

Some of the most interesting representative calcareous formations of laurel and thermophile forests have been found on the slopes running down from Moya. The dragon tree formations ( Dracaena cf. draco ) are particularly significant.

Special Nature Reserve of Los Tiles de Moya

This area is a historic symbol of the fight to defend the laurel forest which used to cover the north of Gran Canaria. A Visitors' Centre has been opened at the area's entrance to help reinforce the educational role of the Reserve

Doramas Park

The aim of this park is to integrate traditional agricultural activities and those untouched areas which still nestle between farm fields. It preserves some of the finest examples of agroforest soil to be found in the middle-to-high altitude areas of Gran Canaria, and which need to be protected from erosion and uncontrolled residential development.

The area owes its name to the aborigine Doramas, who confronted the conquerors and was defeated and killed by Pedro de Vera on the slopes of Arucas.

Natural Monument of Montañón Negro

This Natural Monument , situated at the highest point of the municipality, contains one of the most recent volcanic episodes of the island with an almost intact volcanic cone. It also includes the Caldera de los Pinos de Gáldar.

Protected landscape of Las Cumbres

This is one of the most productive areas of the island as far as livestock is concerned. Flocks of sheep graze on this almost exclusively agropastoral landscape.
