Villa de Moya

The village of Moya is situated in the North of Gran Canaria, only 25Kms from the Municipal capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

To visit Moya, you must take the coast road (GC-2), a route which borders the North coastline of the island.

Moya has got an overall surface area of 31.87Kms and its town centre is located some 490m above sea level.

In the top of Moya, we can find the two last volcanos from Gran Canaria: El Montañón Negro and La Caldera de los Pinos. Both of them were in eruption 3,000 years ago.

The climatic conditions have determined Moya to offer a huger surface of greenforest as the Selva de Doramas where today Los Tiles survive.

Moya is a town which is characterized by irrigated pieces of land in the low areas, like bananas plantations and crops of subsistence in medianias (middle-height regions of the island) and zonas altas (high regions-mountains tops).

Among the various important buildings of the Village, we must mention: The church of Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria, Tomas Morales Museum-House, La Heredad de Aguas (Irrigation Association) and the Hermitage of Fontanales
